Lani Mercado - Responde Cavite Grand Launching

Lani Mercado is a popular Filipino actress and the wife of a well-known actor, former Cavite governor and senator of the Philippines, Bong Revilla. She was a guest speaker at the grand launching of a new newspaper in Cavite, Responde Cavite, which was held on 05 September 2009 at the Casa Hacienda in the Municipality of Rosario, Province of Cavite.

The launching was also graced by the the municipal's mayor, Atty. Jose "Nonong" Ricafrente, Jr, who also delivered a keynote speech.

In her keynote address, Lani spoke about their family's ties and experiences with the media, her husband Bong Revilla being a long time politician in the Province of Cavite. She talked about their support for a free press, and in general, in the freedom of expression. She challenged the newly launched Responde Cavite who touts itself as reasonable and responsible ("risonable", "responsable") to be another vanguard of truth and of free speech, not only in Cavite, but in the whole Philippines.

For his part of the occassion, Prof. Eros Atalia, the Editor-in-Chief, narrated how the newspaper Responde Cavite was born. He said that the financial challenges of running a newpaper led him on a search for fellow Caviteños with the talents and the willingness to share them for less. He solicited the help of his friends including his newsman brother Rommel, who in turn tapped on his friends in the media. The rest is history, and the newspaper's roster contains the names of notable and talented Caviteños in the likes of Efren Abueg, Freddie Silao and Dan Filoteo just to name a few.
